It’s hard taking pictures at Spaceland with no flash cause of the lighting but you get the point.

It’s inspiring to see a good art show every now and then.

We had our first solo show open last weekend, November 13th, at POVevolving Gallery in Chinatown. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported, it really meant a lot. Extra special thanks to Insight, Filter and Lovemade for standing behind what we’re doing. With the opening being a success, we are excited for the future. For everyone that couldn’t make it out to the opening because they had to watch the Paquiao fight or something like that we’ll be having a closing reception for all of you. The date is still yet to be determined but we’ll let you know.

POV Gallery is proud to present Shades of Grey, the first solo exhibition from Dethkills Collective. Evolving from their beginnings in T-shirt printing and graffiti art, Dethkills has made a name for themselves in Los Angeles with their trademark typography layered on larger-than-life paintings. Transcending the boundaries between high art and graffiti, Dethkills creates works addressing everything from social issues to the everyday, all with an intensely creative eye and a handful of Sharpies.
In their inaugural unveiling, Dethkills will display 21 pieces that have been meticulously crafted over the past year. Each piece demonstrates their intricate and unconventional uses of “wet-in-wet” washes and dry brush technique, in conjunction with latex and acrylic paints.
This collection will display a group of works entitled “The 27 Club,” featuring iconic images of musicians and artists, such as Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, who were taken well before their time. Painted in the stark contrast of black and white, these legends are given new life.
The exhibition also includes a series of smaller works that illuminate the intricacies of everyday items, like a phone booth that you pass on your daily route or a box of your grandfather’s medals in the attic; relics of a not so distant, yet highly divergent, past.
The first 100 people at the exhibit will receive a handmade one-of-a-kind Dethkills photozine, with silk-screened cover and silk-screened insert, that showcases the process and progression of each piece in the show from beginning to end.
DJ set by The Blackouts featuring Ako and Atiba Jefferson.

Had a great time chit–chatting and painting at our studio with the lovely Trina Calderon of Juxtapoz. Thanks for making us look a little more sane than we really are <3
